2025 Report

Baslow Boot Bash – REPORT OF 2025 EVENT – 7th JUNE

This year’s event was the 19th Baslow Boot Bash.   There were 147 finishers on the 26 mile course and 124 on the 14 mile compared with 146 and 133 last year.  Only 9 people retired  which says much about the fitness and tenacity of all the entrants.  The weather was better than forecast – it was a good day for walking and running, not too hot.

We started the day parking in Chatsworth Park.  We all appreciated the short dry grass, a result of the earlier date and the long dry Spring.  We accept that our car parking is not always as slick as it might be but we get there in the end.  We are indebted to the Chatsworth Estate for permission to use the Park without which it would be nigh on impossible to hold the event.

We always say it but it really is great to hear all the appreciative comments from you before, during and after the event.   It makes the whole thing worthwhile.  It’s very satisfying to see the same faces year after year.  A drive around the car park the next day revealed not a trace of litter, thank you all, you are good people.

As you know, this is not a race but there is always interest in the times so again we are publishing the first 20 home on both courses, male (M) and female (F).  Congratulations to Joe Mumby and Emma Price who lead the way home on the 26 mile.  Emma’s time of 4:06 was remarkable beating the previous record set last year by half an hour.   Will Spalton repeated his success of last year on the 14 mile by winning in a time of 1:49,  12 minutes faster than 2024.  Jane Crowson was the first woman in a time of 2:05 which was the fastest since 2017.

The event has changed over the years.  Originally the idea was to navigate using the 1:25000 Ordnance Survey map but now most people seem to use the GPX route sent out by Glyn which has the advantage of being up to date.  But some people still use a map.

Thanks once again to both Raynet, who handled communications, and to Derbyshire Light Medical who provided back up for the event with medical support in case we needed it – and we did.  Two entrants needed their expert attention, one needing hospital admission, but thankfully both made a complete recovery.  It’s a reminder just how exhausting and onerous is the 26 mile route

Many thanks to the Baslow choir volunteers who cheerfully provide the refreshments and keep everybody going throughout the day, and to those who man the checkpoints, the car parking and put out (and bring in) the road signs.  Finally thanks to Glyn Herron and his team for supervising the event from the village hall and making sure everyone is accounted for.   It was Glyn’s fourth year dealing with the onerous job of dealing with the entries throughout the year and a special thanks to him.  Finally thank you Fitzgerald Craft Bakery in Buxton for the always fabulous pies!

Provisional Date for your Diary: June 13th 2026.  Booking opens October 2025.
